Family Weekend vs Sewanee

The Tiger Nation returns to Greencastle this week for a conference contest vs Sewanee University of the South from TN. It is Family Weekend at DePauw and that generally means a big crowd that meanders in and out of the stadium with Mom’s and Dads visiting their student children.

Congrats to the team for a gutsy challenging victory at Centre on Saturday. Winning any conference game on the road in the SCAC is always difficult, but our young men showed a ton of poise and resolve to enjoy a very sweet W. This gives us a quick leg up on the conference lead, but there is a lot of football to be played. On any given Saturday, any conference team can beat another – just asks Trinity!!!!

The Tiger Nation that traveled to Danville was OUTSTANDING. Starting with an unbelievable turnout at the tailgate prior to the game and enjoying BBQ Feast Back Row-style thanks to the Bryson’s, we were put in the correct frame of mind to cheer on our warriors. Huge thanks to all for their cooperation and participation. It was the best road trip pre-game environment for a conference game that I have been a part of in my 4 years!!!! Thanks again to Tonya and Scott Bryson for suggesting and setting up the pulled pork BBQ!!!!!!

After a short walk to the stadium, we had nearly as many butts in the stands as the home team - a fact not lost on our boys!!!! With our "Defense-Defense" cheer leading Dad, Jeff Mason, the Centre players heard us, as well!!!! Great job to all.

This weekend it should only get better as many of our alumni parents and players from the past several years are planning to make the trip to Greencastle. Many of us can’t wait to share a hug and a beverage with our former Back-Row regulars!!!!

The script is the same this week. ALL ARE WELCOME to come to the Back Row and join the common area pitch-in tailgate!!! Bring a dish to share and feel free to use the available grills if needed. One suggestion, if I may. I would encourage you to bring more food and healthy food selections. The home-made desserts usually are big favorites, but we have already seen a lot of store bought cookies, etc. have gone uneaten and wasted. Fruits, veggies, cheese/ crackers, deer sausages might be better snack selections along with a salad dishes or a side dish for lunch and post-game.

Note to those that park along the Back Row, we had a suggestion that we are going to try out this week to provide more walking and mingling space on the grassy area. When backing into your parking space, leave enough room directly behind your car and the parking bumpers to place the coolers – yours and others that park in other parts of the lot. There should be enough room for the coolers to sit on the parking lot blacktop, yet not so far out that the front of the car/vehicle protrudes into the aisle.

It is worth a try. We had so many people walking around and with the grills already situated near the lot due to the level ground we think this will make for better crowd flow. This is a great problem to have, but if we can make the environment better, we will see how it goes.

See you bright and early if you can make it that early. At least do whatever you can to arrive in time for Tiger Walk about 10:30. We help set the expectations for the team with our enthusiasm and the size of our throng!!!!!

GO TIGERS!!!!!!!

Roger
