Travel Team and Tickets for Away Games

Travel Team – With moving to a new conference and in this year of transition, not all is set in stone yet concerning travel plans.  Here is what has occurred in the past while a member of the SCAC

The SCAC had a policy that restricted each team to bringing 52 dressed players for conference away games. Who is selected as part of this 52-man team is not determined until the Thursday afternoon/evening before the travel day on Friday.

I am certain that this selection process can be a very difficult decision for the coaches, but that is the nature of college athletics. Injuries, the opponent’s style of play, grades, disciplinary issues, etc., all factor into who is selected to travel.

Consequently, you may not know if your son is traveling to any given away conference game until 5-6 p.m. (or later) on Thursday evening. This unfortunately can create some difficult planning issues for families. Obviously we hope that you support the team wherever they are, but that can be a tough financial decision and time commitment if your son is not playing.

Ticket Policy for Away Games - As for tickets for away games you must convey to your son how many complimentary tickets you need for away games. I recommend you give them a blanket order good for any week they are fortunate to be selected to travel. That way, regardless whether you actually attend or not, you will have tickets available if you attend.

I don’t know if there is an official NCAA DIII limit, but up to 4 tickets per player is usually no problem. They can normally ask another player traveling who does not need their tickets if you need more. Coach turns in the list the day of the game when they arrive at the stadium, so they can request up to Friday night normally. At the ticket entrance at away games, they will have a list with your name; you won’t receive an actual ticket. A couple of schools have a DePauw-like approach and do not charge anyone attending. As a general rule, if you want to attend an away game (Monon Bell is the exception) you can attend at no charge.

Like home games, the only cost to attending most DePauw football games is being loud and proud!!!
