Franklin Scrimmage/Progam Cookout to Start at 12:30 EST

UPDATE - THE TENTATIVE SCHEDULE PER COACH:
Start is still 12:30
The Game-like Half begins 1:45 (scheduled to last 1:15)
PARENTS EAT END OF GAME-LIKE HALF
Scrimmage ends 3:50

Coach has notified us that the scrimmage will begin at 12:30 on Saturday, August 28th. This year the team is incorporating the annual Program Cookout, as well. Since Franklin will be using the locker rooms on the south side of the field, the tentative plans are to set-up the food/eating area in the north end zone.

For the new families, in the past the Program Cookout was on Labor Day Saturday during the Black and Gold Scrimmage. This year the Black and Gold Intersquad Scrimmage will stand alone.

The cookout is a partial pitch-in affair. The Program provides the meat, condiments, beverages, etc. The different class parents are requested to bring specific foods:
Seniors – 1-dozen hamburger and hot dog buns
Juniors – Dessert
Sophomores and Freshmen – Side dish

But remember if you are planning to attend, you must RSVP to the athletic secretary, Ginny Kersey via email at: vkersey@depauw.edu by next Wednesday, Aug 25. All family members are invited. They just need a count for planning purposes.

As far as the scrimmage and what to expect:
The NCAA permits D3 teams to have the choice of playing an 10 game schedule and a pre-season scrimmage. The scrimmage has a very specific format that must be followed, lasting about 2 1/2- to 3-hours and does use licensed college officials.

The scrimmage is initially a multi-ring circus. Lineman will match-up with lineman in one area, possible even on an adjacent field. You know how the pretty boys must stay on the pristine conditions of the stadium!!!! Spoken like a true lineman’s father!!! Receivers/QB’s and D-backs will work against each other and so on.

There will be an 11-on-11 where the offense runs a set number of plays and then they will switch offenses and defense with the other team running a set number of plays. There will be special teams drills with live blocking, but the ball carrier is not tackled; goal line and red zone situations, etc

The final segment is a true scrimmage with down markers, and played as close to normal game-like conditions except hitting the QB’s. Normally at the end they play an extended quarter with the players that have not played as much in the previous scrimmage, more like a JV scrimmage before mercifully ending.

Coach wants families to be done eating before the scrimmage ends so that the players and coaches can eat without much of a delay following the scrimmage’s conclusion.

To the vet’s I think we should hold a board meeting in the usual and customary “back row" before the scrimmage begins. Need to catch-up and see who has shrunk, expanded, become grayer, become sweeter, etc. etc. I was thinking maybe 60-90 minuets prior to the 12:30 start would be reasonable. No food, just good cheer. ALL NEW FAMILIES are welcomed to stop by to begin the introduction process. We may be missing our long distance veterans from places like CA, FL, OK etc., but there are plenty of us that are fortunate to live a reasonable distance from Greencastle that will be there.

See you soon!!!

GO TIGERS!!!!!!
